Purification and Characterization of Gigantoxin-4, a New Actinoporin from the Sea Anemone Stichodactyla Gigantea

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biological Sciences, 2011
A new Cytolysin, termed as Gigantoxin-4, was isolated from the sea anemone Stichodactyla gigantea and found to be highly homologous with Cytolysin-3 (HMg III) from Heteractis magnifica, RTX-A from Radianthus macrodactylus, and Sticholysin-1 (St I) and ...

Kinetics and mechanism of st i modification by peroxyl radicals [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
St I is a toxin present in the Caribbean Sea anemone Stichodactyla helianthus which is highly hemolytic in the nanomolar concentration range. Exposure of the toxin to free radicals produced in the pyrolysis of 2,2′ -azobis(2-amidinopropane) hydrochloride

Mechanism of the leakage induced on lipid model membranes by the hemolytic protein sticholysin II from the sea anemone Stichodactyla helianthus [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1998
A potent hemolytic polypeptide, sticholysin II, has been purified to homogeneity from the sea anemone Stichodactyla helianthus. The protein produces leakage of aqueous contents of model lipid vesicles composed of either phosphatidylcholine or sphingomyelin if cholesterol is present in these membranes.

Bases moleculares de la interacción esticolisina-membrana sobre la estructura del poro y los efectos de los lípidos.

open access: yes, 2021
Tesis inédita de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Facultad de Ciencias Químicas, leída el 18/06/2021The usefulness of toxicity across the tree of life is far beyond doubt. Most, if not all, organisms produce compounds that can be used for attack and/

Self-homodimerization of an actinoporin by disulfide bridging reveals implications for their structure and pore formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The Trp111 to Cys mutant of sticholysin I, an actinoporin from Stichodactyla helianthus sea anemone, forms a homodimer via a disulfide bridge. The purified dimer is 193 times less hemolytic than the monomer.

Insights on the structure-activity relationship of peptides derived from Sticholysin II.

open access: yes, 2018
Sticholysin II (StII) is a pore-forming actinoporin from the sea anemone Stichodactyla helianthus. A mechanistic model of its action has been proposed: proteins bind to cell membrane, insert their N-termini into the lipid core and assemble into homo ...

Application of stichodactyla toxin in the treatment of autoimmune diseases

open access: yes, 2018

Stycholysin II, a cytolysin from the sea anemone Stichodactyla helianthus promotes higher hemolysis in aged red blood cells

open access: yesToxicon, 2008
We have investigated the relationship between the status of red blood cells (RBCs) and their susceptibility to toxin sticholysin II (StII) hemolytic activity; we have evaluated this effect in different RBC ensembles, comprising young and old cells, and in cells partially damaged by their pre-exposition to a free radical source.
