Krylov Implicit Integration Factor Methods for Semilinear Fourth-Order Equations
Implicit integration factor (IIF) methods were developed for solving time-dependent stiff partial differential equations (PDEs) in literature. In [Jiang and Zhang, Journal of Computational Physics, 253 (2013) 368–388], IIF methods are designed to ...

Quadrature Methods for Stiff Ordinary Differential Systems [PDF]
The quadrature methods are based upon a substitution of an explicit A -stable first approximation into a generalized convolution formula. They are A -stable, explicit, and of arbitrarily high order. The generalized convolution formula is derived and its

Stability regions for one-step multiderivative methods
Stability regions are plotted for certain members of a family of one-step multiderivative predictor-corrector methods developed by the authors in an earlier paper.

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The acquisition of new members by groups : the role of selection, socialisation, and sanctions
Human society is built on a foundation of collaborative endeavours which range from small social groups to multi-national organisations to governments. In order to sustain these systems, many groups will often be required to recruit new members; either ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A ninth-order first derivative method for numerical integration
In this paper, we present a ninth–order block hybrid method for the numerical solution of stiff and non–stiff systems of first–order differential equations.

Robust optimization of stiff delayed systems
We apply a robust steady state optimization method for stiff delay differential equations to the economic optimization of a fluidized catalytic cracking unit. Stiff systems of differential equations appear in this case due to the different time scales in
