Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Global optimization of stiff dynamical systems
AbstractWe present a deterministic global optimization method for nonlinear programming formulations constrained by stiff systems of ordinary differential equation (ODE) initial value problems (IVPs). The examples arise from dynamic optimization problems exhibiting both fast and slow transient phenomena commonly encountered in model‐based systems ...

A novel approach to rigid spheroid models in viscous flows using operator splitting methods
Calculating cost-effective solutions to particle dynamics in viscous flows is an important problem in many areas of industry and nature. We implement a second-order symmetric splitting method on the governing equations for a rigid spheroidal particle ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Model of motion of a material point near two tangent paraboloids [PDF]
The motion of a material point near a singularity of the type of two tangent surfaces is considered. The surfaces are located symmetrically with respect to a common tangent plane and have a common axis of rotation.

Algorithmic aspects of transient heat transfer problems in structures [PDF]
It is noted that the application of finite element or finite difference techniques to the solution of transient heat transfer problems in structures often results in a stiff system of ordinary differential equations. Such systems are usually handled most

Energy-diminishing integration of gradient systems [PDF]
For gradient systems in Euclidean space or on a Riemannian manifold the energy decreases monotonically along solutions. Algebraically stable Runge-Kutta methods are shown to also reduce the energy in each step under a mild step-size restriction.

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Physically Inspired Models for the Synthesis of Stiff Strings with Dispersive Waveguides
We review the derivation and design of digital waveguides from physical models of stiff systems, useful for the synthesis of sounds from strings, rods, and similar objects.
