Stiffness modulation of redundant musculoskeletal systems

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanics, 2019
This work presents a framework for computing the limbs' stiffness using inverse methods that account for the musculoskeletal redundancy effects. The musculoskeletal task, joint and muscle stiffness are regulated by the central nervous system towards improving stability and interaction with the environment during movement.

A novel method for alleviating numerical stiffness in Li-ion thermal abuse models

open access: yesJournal of Power Sources Advances, 2023
Numerical modeling of thermal runaway in Lithium-ion batteries has become a critical tool for designing safer battery systems. Significant progress has been made in developing kinetic mechanisms for decomposition reactions and including additional ...

Carcinomas and Carcinoid Tumors of the Lungs and Bronchi in Children and Adolescents: The EXPeRT Recommendations

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Primary lung carcinomas and bronchial carcinoid tumors (BC) are very rare malignancies in childhood. While typical BC and mucoepidermoid carcinomas are mostly low‐grade, localized tumors with a more favorable prognosis than in adults, necessitating avoidance of overtreatment, adenocarcinomas of the lung are often diagnosed at advanced disease ...

Benchmarking of implicit numerical integration methods for stiff unified constitutive equations in metal forming applications

open access: yesCogent Engineering
Unified constitutive equations have been developed to model the behaviour of metallic materials under various processing conditions. These constitutive equations usually take the form of a set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), which must be ...

INFLAMMATION AND ARTERIAL STIFFNESS IN SYSTEMIC VASCULITIS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Hypertension, 2004
AbstractObjectiveArterial stiffness, an independent determinant of cardiovascular risk, is regulated by both structural and functional factors, including endothelium‐derived nitric oxide. Endothelial dysfunction is associated with acute and chronic systemic inflammation.

The numerical integration of stiff systems using stable multistep multiderivative methods

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper we describe the construction of stable multistep multiderivative methods designed for continuous numerical integration of stiff systems of initial value problems in ordinary dierential equations.

European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline and EXPeRT Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Management of Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Children and Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs) are extremely rare and clinically heterogeneous. Management has largely been extrapolated from adult practice. This European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline (ESCP), developed by the EXPeRT network in collaboration with adult NEN experts, provides (adult) evidence ...

High order second derivative diagonally implicit multistage integration methods for ODEs

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2023
Construction of second derivative diagonally implicit multistage integration methods (SDIMSIMs) as a subclass of second derivative general linear methods with Runge–Kutta stability property requires to generate the corresponding conditions depending of ...

The efficiency of second derivative multistep methods for the numerical integration of stiff systems

open access: yes, 2016
A substantial increase in efficiency is achieved by the numerical integration methods which take advantage of the second derivative terms of the differential equation to be solved.
