Stimulated Brillouin scattering by surface acoustic waves in lithium niobate waveguides [PDF]
We numerically demonstrate that Lithium Niobate on Insulator (LNOI) waveguides may support confined short-wavelength surface acoustic waves that interact strongly with optical fields through backward stimulated Brillouin scattering in both $Z$ and $X ...

Photonic reservoir computing enabled by stimulated Brillouin scattering [PDF]
Artificial intelligence (AI) drives the creation of future technologies that disrupt the way humans live and work, creating new solutions that change the way we approach tasks and activities, but it requires a lot of data processing, large amounts of ...

Non-contact and label-free biomechanical imaging: Stimulated Brillouin microscopy and beyond
Brillouin microscopy based on spontaneous Brillouin scattering has emerged as a unique elastography technique because of its merit of non-contact, label-free, and high-resolution mechanical imaging of biological cell and tissue.

Short-Time Fourier Transform Based on Stimulated Brillouin Scattering [PDF]
In this paper, all-optical short-time Fourier transform (STFT) based on stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is proposed and further used for real-time time-frequency analysis of different radio frequency (RF) signals.

Stimulated Brillouin scattering in chiral photonic crystal fiber [PDF]
Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) has many applications, for example, in sensing, microwave photonics and signal processing. Here we report the first experimental study of SBS in chiral photonic crystal fiber (PCF), which displays optical activity ...

Recent Progress in Distributed Brillouin Sensors Based on Few-Mode Optical Fibers
Brillouin scattering is a dominant inelastic scattering observed in optical fibers, where the energy and momentum transfer between photons and acoustic phonons takes place.

Cascaded forward Brillouin lasing in a chalcogenide whispering gallery mode microresonator
We report the first observation of cascaded forward stimulated Brillouin scattering in a microresonator platform. We have demonstrated 25 orders of intramodal Stokes beams separated by a Brillouin shift of 34.5 MHz at a sub-milliwatt threshold at 1550 nm.
