During hot working, alloys may experience three kinds of flow stress behaviors, including strain hardening, strain softening, or steady flow, because of the competition of work hardening and thermal softening. Modelling the flow stress behaviors plays an

Nanoscale Strain-Hardening of Keratin Fibres
Mammalian appendages such as hair, quill and wool have a unique structure composed of a cuticle, a cortex and a medulla. The cortex, responsible for the mechanical properties of the fibers, is an assemblage of spindle-shaped keratinized cells bound together by a lipid/protein sandwich called the cell membrane complex. Each cell is itself an assembly of

Multi-stage strain-hardening behavior of dual-phase steels: A review
Regardless of the abundant studies that have been published on various characteristics of dual-phase (DP) steels, a comprehensive review paper on the strain-hardening behavior of such materials is still lacking.

Evidence of Strain Hardening in DNA Gels
Strain hardening observed in many biological gels is nature's defense against the external forces to protect the tissue integrity. Here, we show that double-stranded (ds) DNA gels also stiffen as they arestrained.ChemicalDNAgelswerepreparedbysolutioncross-linkingofds-DNA(about2000basepairs long) using the cross-linker ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether ...

SOME ASPECTS OF FRICTION AND ANISOTROPIC RATIOS ON THE WORK HARDENING BEHAVIOR IN THE UPSETTING TESTS [PDF]
Metal upsetting is a primary mechanical working operation to reduce the cross-section of the billets, and there are few challenges that are to be solved.

Analysis of strain hardening of ADI at isothermal hardening temperatures
The effect of isothermal hardening temperature on the mechanical properties of ADI materials is investigated. The heat treatment of the test samples consisted of the heating above the temperature of transformation of the ferrite component in austenite and isothermal hardening at temperatures from 280 to 380 °C.

Strain hardening of crystalline materials
To describe the work hardening process of crystalline materials in uniaxial deformation, a gradient-one-internal-variable model (GM1) constructed in the basis of the Kocks-Mecking model is proposed.

On strain hardening mechanism in gradient nanostructures
AbstractExperiments have shown that a gradient design, in which grain size spans over four orders of magnitude, can make strong nanomaterials ductile. The enhanced ductility is attributed to the considerable strain hardening capability obtained in the gradient metals. A non-uniform deformation on the lateral sample surface is also observed.

Traditional accelerated methods for assessing slow crack growth (SCG) resistance in polyethylene (PE) are time-consuming and costly. Conversely, the strain hardening test (SHT) has been widely adopted to characterize the relative SCG resistance during a ...
