Response of single polymers to localized step strains [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2009
In this paper, the response of single three-dimensional phantom and self-avoiding polymers to localized step strains are studied for two cases in the absence of hydrodynamic interactions: (i) polymers tethered at one end with the strain created at the point of tether, and (ii) free polymers with the strain created in the middle of the polymer.

Micro-scale full-field strain measurement on a stainless steel sample elasto-plastically tested [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study deals with the characterisation of the mechanical behaviour of an austenitic stainless steel at the micrometric scale in its elasto-plastic domain. For that, the full-field “grid method”, adapted to this scale, is implementeded.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Syn-Emplacement Fracturing in the Sandfell Laccolith, Eastern Iceland—Implications for Rhyolite Intrusion Growth and Volcanic Hazards

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2018
Felsic magma commonly pools within shallow mushroom-shaped magmatic intrusions, so-called laccoliths or cryptodomes, which can cause both explosive eruptions and collapse of the volcanic edifice.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Observation of heterogeneities in elastocaloric natural/wastes rubber composites

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2022
The strain-induced crystallization and elastocaloric properties of various natural rubber (NR)/ground tire rubber (GTR) blends, comprising waste particles of diverse sizes and contents, were investigated.

ZipN is an essential FtsZ membrane tether and contributes to the septal localization of SepJ in the flamentous cyanobacterium Anabaena [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The organismic unit of heterocyst-forming cyanobacteria is a filament of communicating cells connected by septal junctions, proteinaceous structures bridging the cytoplasms of contiguous cells.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Spin-Resolved Self-Doping Tunes the Intrinsic Half-Metallicity of AlN Nanoribbons

open access: yes, 2013
We present a first-principles theoretical study of electric field-and strain-controlled intrinsic half-metallic properties of zigzagged aluminium nitride (AlN) nanoribbons.

Surface plasmon polaritons in strained Weyl semimetals

open access: yes, 2020
Surface plasmon polaritons in a strained slab of a Weyl semimetal with broken time-reversal symmetry are investigated. It is found that the strain-induced axial gauge field reduces frequencies of these collective modes for intermediate values of the wave
