Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Disaster Prevention in Urban Environments

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Spatial Development, 2004
Disasters always have very undesirable consequences, especially when they occur in urban environments. This paper discusses some problems with regard to disaster prevention policy in the Netherlands.

Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA): Seeking Sustainability

open access: yesNew Directions for Evaluation
ABSTRACTThe world is currently facing wicked problems caused by humanities’ environmental footprint. Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a holistic, systematic high‐level planning and decision‐making instrument designed to assess impacts of wicked problems, and the strategic actions developed to address them.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Strategic environmental assessment and monitoring: Arctic key gaps and bridging pathways

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2013
The Arctic region undergoes rapid and unprecedented environmental change. Environmental assessment and monitoring is needed to understand and decide how to mitigate and/or adapt to the changes and their impacts on society and ecosystems.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Aspectos ambientais no Plano Nacional de Logística e Transporte do Brasil

open access: yesDesenvolvimento e Meio Ambiente, 2015
The Brazilian government has been heavily investing in transportation infrastructure. According to environmental laws, this kind of enterprise must do an environmental impact assessment (EIA). However, the EIA is a regulatory measure applied post-project,

Strategic environmental assessment as an instrument for enhacement of public participation in planning [PDF]

open access: yesSpatium, 2007
The paper presents an overview of experiences of public participation within planning, summarized in the "ladder of citizen participation". Further, considering that Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is seen as an instrument for operationalizing ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.
