Strengthening of Timber Beam with Cold-Formed Steel Plates

open access: yesInternational Journal of Sustainable Construction Engineering and Technology, 2023
This paper describes an experimental program which examined the flexural strengthening of timber beams (50x50x1000 mm) using cold-formed steel (CFS) plates (0.75 mm thick and 30 mm wide). A total of fifteen specimens were tested in three-point bending scheme with a span-depth ratio of 18:1.

Performance of steel beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP laminate

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Structural Engineering, 2015
Prestressed Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) system is generally used for strengthening reinforced concrete beams where CFRP laminate can improve both the strength and serviceability behaviour of reinforced concrete beams via increasing the ...

Experimental investigation of CFRP-strengthened steel beams with web openings [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Constructional Steel Research, 2017
The introduction of web openings in existing steel floor beams is a common occurrence in practice. Such modifications are often necessary to accommodate additional services driven by a change of building use, thus extending the service life of the structure.

A Review on Strengthening Steel Beams Using FRP under Fatigue [PDF]

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
In recent decades, the application of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for strengthening structural elements has become an efficient option to meet the increased cyclic loads or repair due to corrosion or fatigue cracking. Hence, the objective of this study is to explore the existing FRP reinforcing techniques to care for fatigue damaged ...

Shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with web bonded steel bars or steel plates

open access: yesResults in Engineering, 2023
This paper presents the report of two groups of experimental works to study the shear capacity and strain distribution of reinforced concrete beams strengthened on beam sides with the near-surface mounted (NSM) method.

Comparative Investigation on Torsional Behaviour of RC Beam Strengthened with CFRP Fabric Wrapping and Near-Surface Mounted (NSM) Steel Bar

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
Many researchers worldwide have extensively used fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) strengthening materials and near-surface mounted (NSM) to enhance the shear and flexural strengths of reinforced concrete (RC) beams.

Strengthening of steel I-section beams by wire arc additive manufacturing — Concept and experiments

open access: yesEngineering structures
An experimental investigation to assess the major-axis flexural behaviour of 10 hot-rolled steel I-section beams, strengthened by the addition of material through wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) and tested under either four-point or three-point ...

Parametric Analysis of CFRP Flexural Strengthening of Steel I-Beams Under Monotonic Loading

open access: yesJournal of Composites Science
Externally bonded carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) can increase the flexural capacity of steel beams, but the benefit is often limited by the performance of the adhesive interface.
