Hyperlipoproteinemia in Streptozotocin-treated Rats

Diabetes, 1976
In order to study hyperlipidemia in diabetes mellitus, rats were made diabetic by administration of streptozotocin and the optimal conditions for production of severe and persistent hyperlipoprotenemia determined. Two groups of rats were compared: rats fed sucrose-rich diets and rats fed laboratory chow.

Early streptozotocin diabetes and hunger

Physiology & Behavior, 1983
The initial effect of streptozotocin diabetes is not hyperphagia, but reduced food intake. Diabetic hyperphagia reaches maximum only after many days. Utilization of body fat may account for the delayed appearance of diabetic hyperphagia; this effect may be mediated by plasma fat metabolites.

Streptozotocin treatment for malignant insulinoma

Irish Journal of Medical Science, 1974
A CASE of malignant insulinoma was treated with streptozotocin intravenously and by coeliac axis infusion. Treatment was repeated over a period of two years, and the total dose was 82.5g. Several clinical remissions of hypoglycaemia were obtained despite the persistence of abnormally elevated plasma insulin levels.

Streptozotocin for metastatic malignant melanoma

American Journal of Clinical Oncology, 1985
Streptozotocin was administered at a dose of 500 mg/m2/day by continuous infusion for 120 hours to 14 patients with advanced malignant melanoma. No responses were observed in this group of patients and the median survival for the entire group was 2 months. At the dose and schedule delivered, streptozotocin is inactive against malignant melanoma.

Diabetogenic action of streptozotocin

Trends in Pharmacological Sciences, 1982
Abstract Streptozotocin (SZ) possesses four distinct biological activities: antibiotic, antitumoral, cancer producing and diabetogenic. SZ is a highly effective cytotoxic agent for pancreatic β cells; the possible reason for high specificity of SZ towards the pancreatic β cells may be a high capacity of these cells to accumulate the substance.
