Casimir Stress Concentration

Physical Review Letters
Casimir force, stemming from quantum fluctuation prominent at nanoscale, can cause notable motion or deformation of objects. While Casimir-induced rigid-body motion has been successfully described, quantifying elastic deformation remains challenging due to the poorly understood Casimir stress.

Stress concentrations in bone

Journal of Cell Science, 1962
ABSTRACT Small cavities and notches in an otherwise perfect material will greatly reduce the strength of the material, particularly its tensile strength. They will do this by producing stress concentrations around themselves. It is shown that bone is permeated with such stress-concentrators in the form of canaliculi, osteocyte lacunae ...

Stress Concentration Problems

2014
Stress concentration in an elastic body may be caused mainly by the two-mechanisms i.e., concentrated forces acting to a body and geometrical discontinuities of a body such as holes or abrupt change of its surface geometry. The local stress increase induced by stress concentration sometimes causes the initiation of a fatigue crack in a structure, which
