Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Beacons of Excellence in Stress Prevention

open access: yes, 2004
NoThis report describes the work of Robertson Cooper Ltd and UMIST to identify good practice in stress prevention and then identify organisations within the UK that could be called beacons of excellence in comparison to this model.

Analysis and optimization of multiple factors influencing fracturing induced stress field

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Exploration and Production Technology, 2019
The induced stress field caused by hydraulic fracturing plays a key role in controlling the formation characteristics of fractures and is the essential prerequisite for optimal design of fracturing parameters.

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Psychobiological responses to critically evaluated multitasking

open access: yesNeurobiology of Stress, 2017
In order to understand psychobiological responses to stress it is necessary to observe how people react to controlled stressors. A range of stressors exist for this purpose; however, laboratory stressors that are representative of real life situations ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Evaluation of the Oxidative Stress in Chronic Alcoholics

open access: yesJOURNAL OF CLINICAL AND DIAGNOSTIC RESEARCH, 2013
The present study was conducted to assess the activity of Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) and its association with oxidative stress in alcoholics.Sixty male alcoholics with a history of alcohol abuse for more than five years were the subjects of this study.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Objective negative evaluation level, perceived stress, and autonomic reactivity in a lab-based stress induction : a test of moderated mediation in a three-variable system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Objective stress exposure, the impartial level of threat, and perceptions of stress, the level of threat a person endorses feeling, are important constructs in biopsychosocial research on internalizing psychopathology risk.
