Chronic silencing of subsets of cortical layer 5 pyramidal neurons has a long‐term influence on the laminar distribution of parvalbumin interneurons and the perineuronal nets

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 246, Issue 4, Page 479-504, April 2025.
Chronic silencing of subsets of layer 5 projection neurons has distinct effects on the laminar distribution of PV interneurons and the perineuronal nets in the adult primary motor and somatosensory cortex. Abstract Neural networks are established throughout cortical development, which require the right ratios of glutamatergic and GABAergic neurons ...

Thoughts Falling Apart: Disorganized Schizotypy Specifically Predicts Both Psychotic‐ and Stress‐Reactivity in Daily Life

open access: yesJournal of Personality, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Schizotypal personality traits, such as unusual experiences, odd beliefs, or social anhedonia, predict psychotic‐like experiences (PLEs) and heightened stress‐reactivity in daily life. Yet, in previous studies, stressor appraisal, but not exposure, was used to predict stress‐reactivity, which might be a consequence of behavioral ...

Dreaming conundrum

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 2, April 2025.
Summary Dreaming, a common yet mysterious cognitive phenomenon, is an involuntary process experienced by individuals during sleep. Although the fascination with dreams dates back to ancient times and gained therapeutic significance through psychoanalysis in the early twentieth century, its scientific investigation only gained momentum with the ...

Ikelos‐Rating Scale: Validation of a Behavioural Severity Marker in REM Sleep Behaviour Disorder

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Ikelos‐Rating Scale (Ikelos‐RS) is a new, expert‐interviewed and bedpartner‐reported severity marker assessing frequency and expression of isolated REM sleep behaviour disorder (iRBD), a precursor of clinical α‐synucleinopathies. This study aimed to validate the Ikelos‐RS in 180 patients with three‐night PSG‐confirmed iRBD (68.4 ± 8.3 ...

Bidirectional Predictors Between Neurobehavioural Measures During Total Sleep Deprivation and Baseline and Recovery Sleep Measures

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT For the first time, we examined bidirectional predictors between baseline night (B2) and recovery night 1 (R1) actigraphic sleep measures and neurobehavioural indices during total sleep deprivation (TSD) in a 5‐day experiment with 32 healthy adults. During the B2 and R1 nights, wrist actigraphy assessed sleep indices. Neurobehavioural measures

The organization of midbrain projections to the striatum in the primate: Sensorimotor-related striatum versus ventral striatum

Neuroscience, 1994
In order to examine the organization of nigrostriatal projections in the primate, the retrograde tracers Lucifer Yellow conjugated to dextran amines and horseradish peroxidase conjugated to wheatgerm agglutinin were injected into different regions of the dorsolateral and ventral striatum.

A model for the functioning of the striatum

Biological Cybernetics, 1993
A model is presented for the operation of the striatum. The model posits that the basal ganglia are responsible for driving smooth transitions of state for an organism. We propose that this is accomplished through the computation of a potential function within the striatum on which a gradient descent is performed toward the goal state.

Habit Formation and the Striatum

2016
Data from experimental animals and human subjects has provided convergent evidence for the key role of the striatum in the formation of stimulus-response habits. Habits can be distinguished from associative memories that support goal-directed actions based on their insensitivity to reward devaluation and contingency degradation.

Xanthoma striatum palmare

Gut, 2015
A 31-year-old woman presented with a 7-month history of dark-colour urine, pruritus and xanthoma striatum palmare. Physical examination revealed diffuse yellowish and irregular plaques deposited over her fingers and palmar creases (figure 1). Skin biopsy was performed, which revealed accumulation of foam cells in the dermis (figure 2, arrow ).
