Real and Apparent Deviations From Rational Choice

open access: yesKyklos, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper offers a taxonomy of real and apparent deviations from rationality. The taxonomy is based on three axes of divides—whereas the axes are successive refinements. The outermost‐axis divide delineates “anxiety‐based choices” from “anxiety‐free choices.” Anxiety‐based choices are real deviations such as the Allais and Ellsberg paradoxes ...

Disasters, Dictators, and Donors: The Impact of Foreign Aid on Economic Activity (Mis)Reporting

open access: yesReview of Development Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines how governments manipulate economic data to secure more foreign disaster aid. By using nighttime lighting as a reliable measure of economic activity, we make two key findings: (1) foreign disaster aid is positively linked to a country's understatement of its gross domestic product, indicating a deliberate strategy to ...

Entanglement, Space–Time Coordinates, and Bell's Inequalities in Photon–Polarization Experiments

open access: yesAnnalen der Physik, Volume 538, Issue 9, September 2026.
This work presents a revised analysis of Bell‐type inequalities. It is argued that standard derivations of Bell‐type inequalities implicitly rely on additional assumptions beyond those originally stated, specifically concerning the cardinalities of the sets of measurements and photon‐pair properties.

Optimum Probing for Avalanche Victims

open access: yes, 1967
The technological problems connected with the development of a "wonder searching instrument" are immense. Until science presents us with this instrument we must use classical search devices.

Q‐GlaRe+: An Open‐Source Framework for Palaeoglacier Reconstruction and Equilibrium‐Line Altitude Calculation

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 9, September 2026.
Q‐GlaRe+ is an open‐source QGIS plugin for palaeoglacier reconstruction and equilibrium‐line altitude estimation. Validation against Swiss Alpine glaciers demonstrates accuracy comparable to proprietary tools. By removing software barriers and supporting FAIR principles, Q‐GlaRe+ enables broader access to glacier reconstruction capabilities and ...

Impacts of Transient Critical Zone Evolution on Landslide Susceptibility and Hazard Across the Utuado Batholith, Puerto Rico

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Landscapes in humid climates often experience rapid chemical and mechanical weathering that can change groundwater fluxes, drainage pathways, and frictional strength via alterations in subsurface mineral composition and matrix porosity. These changes to hillslope critical zone structure and strength should control landslide susceptibility ...

Elliptic-Möbius S-boxes: A hybrid algebraic construction for cryptographic applications

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
Substitution boxes (S-boxes) are the nonlinear core of block ciphers, and their design critically impacts resistance against cryptanalytic attacks. Existing approaches either use chaotic maps, which often exhibit structural weaknesses, or elliptic curve (

A New Method on Constructing Boolean Functions Satisfying the Strict Avalanche Criterion and Bounds on the Number of SAC Functions

open access: yesDEStech Transactions on Computer Science and Engineering, 2017
Properties of Boolean functions satisfying the Strict Avalanche Criterion (SAC) are studied. A new method of constructing SAC functions is proposed, and it is proved that the Hamming weight of SAC functions with n variables belongs to the set W(n)={k|2n-2 3 2 2 − £ £ × n k , k is an even number}. Finally, the upper and lower bounds of the number of SAC
