Strip casting of Al–Pb alloys — a numerical analysis

Abstract A numerical model describing the microstructural evolution of strip cast immiscible alloys is presented. The numerical results for Al–Pb-type bearing alloys show that in strip casting a constitutional supercooling region exists in front of the solid/liquid interface where liquid/liquid decomposition takes place.

Clad Strip Casting by a Roll Caster

Casting of clad strip, which was one of the composite alloys, was tried using a roll caster. A vertical tandem type twin roll casters for clad strip were designed and assembled to cast the clad strip. Three layers of clad strip could be cast. The interface between the base strip and overlay strip was clear.

Fabrication of Mg Alloy Strips by Strip Casting

A feasibility study has been made to fabricate the Mg alloy strips by strip casting. AZ31 and AZ91 alloys were strip cast into 2 mm thick strips. The microstructure of the as-cast AZ31 alloy strip consists of columnar zones near the roll side and equiaxed zones in the mid-thickness region.

Strip formation and process stability in twin roll strip casting

Process stability in the thin strip casting process of steel has been investigated with a laboratory pilot caster. Depending on the steel grade and the process parameters irregular process states could be observed. It has been proved experimentally that the observed behaviour is not caused by the regulation system.
