Roll Casting of a Wire Inserted Strip
Advanced Materials Research, 2011Casting of a wire-inserted strip was tried by a downward melt drag twin roll caster. Some numbers of wires of 0.3 mm diameter were inserted. Effects of the wire-interval, matrix alloy and melt temperature on the ability of the insertion of the wire were investigated.

1991Abstract : The purpose of the Phase I research project is to demonstrate the feasibility of melting titanium alloys using Duriron's induction slag melting process and casting them into rapidly solidified strip by RIBTEC's melt overflow process. The strip might be used for SiC-Ti metal matrix composites for advanced airframe structures.

Optimal Design of Strip Casting Roll

Analyses of heat transfer and deformation for the casting roll are carried out by using the finite element program, ANSYS. Both the elastic deformation and the elasto-plastic deformation under a thermal load are considered in the analysis.
