Bragg resonances for tunneling between edges of a 2D Quantum Hall system

open access: yes, 1996
A theory is presented for tunneling between compressible regions on the sides of a narrow incompressible Quantum Hall strip. Assuming that electron interactions lead to formation of a Wigner crystal on the edges of the compressible regions, we consider ...

Dynamical Instabilities of Quasi-static Crack Propagation Under Thermal Stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We address the theory of quasi-static crack propagation in a strip of glass that is pulled from a hot oven towards a cold bath. This problem had been carefully studied in a number of experiments that offer a wealth of data to challenge the theory.

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

Practicability of unified theory in calculating ship hydrodynamics

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu
ObjectivesThis study seeks to address the low-frequency limitations in the computation of hydrodynamics for slender ships using strip theory, and develops an efficient method for calculating hydrodynamics over a wider frequency range for slender ships ...

A search for non-pulsating, chemically normal stars in the Scuti instability strip using Kepler data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We identify stars in the δ Sct instability strip that do not pulsate in p modes at the 50-μmag limit, using Kepler data. Spectral classification and abundance analyses from high-resolution spectroscopy allow us to identify chemically peculiar stars, in ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Analytical Study on Inherent Properties of a Unidirectional Vibrating Steel Strip Partially Immersed in Fluid

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2013
The theory of singuarity functions is introduced to present an analytical approach for the natural properties of a unidirectional vibrating steel strip with two opposite edges simply supported and other two free, partially submerged in fluid and under ...

Edge Currents in Non-commutative Chern-Simons Theory from a New Matrix Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This paper discusses the formulation of the non-commutative Chern-Simons (CS) theory where the spatial slice, an infinite strip, is a manifold with boundaries.
