Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Enhanced perpendicular coercivity of ultrathin perpendicularly magnetized Tb–Fe–Co films on silicon substrates using a thin Pt underlayer

open access: yesJournal of Science: Advanced Materials and Devices, 2016
We have studied the effect of an additional thin Pt underlayer on the magnetic properties of ultrathin perpendicularly magnetized TbFeCo films grown on silicon substrates.

Contrastive Learning-Based One-Class Classification for Intelligent Manufacturing System

open access: yesMachines
Time-series anomaly detection is imperative for ensuring reliability and safety in intelligent manufacturing systems. However, real-world environments typically provide only normal operating data and exhibit significant periodicity, noise, imbalance, and

Polynomial differential quadrature method for numerical solutions of the generalized Fitzhugh–Nagumo equation with time-dependent coefficients

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal, 2014
In this paper, polynomial differential quadrature method (PDQM) is applied to find the numerical solution of the generalized Fitzhugh–Nagumo equation with time-dependent coefficients in one dimensional space. The PDQM reduces the problem into a system of

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.
