Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo inversion of surface-based transient electromagnetic data

open access: yesSN Applied Sciences, 2022
Article Highlights 1. We propose a Bayesian MCMC procedure for surface-based TEM data inversion and apply it successfully both in synthetic data and field data. 2.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Prediction of the Released Mechanical Energy of Loaded Lap Shear Joints by Acoustic Emission Measurements

open access: yesSensors
In lightweight design, the usage of different optimised materials is widespread. The interfaces between two different materials are prone to damage and, therefore, the Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of these areas is of interest. A new method for the

Mechanical Structural Design of a MEMS-Based Piezoresistive Accelerometer for Head Injuries Monitoring: A Computational Analysis by Increments of the Sensor Mass Moment of Inertia. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This work focuses on the proof-mass mechanical structural design improvement of a tri-axial piezoresistive accelerometer specifically designed for head injuries monitoring where medium-G impacts are common; for example, in sports such as racing cars or ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Design and characterization of variable stiffness structural joints

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2020
This paper presents design and characterization of a new type of structural joint which can vary its stiffness through actuation. Stiffness variation is employed to control the dynamic response of frame structures equipped with such joints.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Aircraft Conceptual Structural Design Using the AMMIT Structural Analysis Tool [PDF]

open access: yes
Aircraft conceptual structural design is the process of developing and refining an idea for an aircraft into a feasible structural design. The process typically involves multiple evaluations of a single configuration and can require designers to examine ...
