Deflection characterisation of rotary systems using ground-based radar

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
In the last two decades, an increase in large rotary machines/systems has been witnessed. To ensure safe operation of these systems especially due to extreme stress caused by centrifugal forces as well as the wind or water loadings, regular structural ...

EmptyHeaded: A Relational Engine for Graph Processing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
There are two types of high-performance graph processing engines: low- and high-level engines. Low-level engines (Galois, PowerGraph, Snap) provide optimized data structures and computation models but require users to write low-level imperative code, hence ensuring that efficiency is the burden of the user.

Engineering Nano-Sized Silicon Anodes with Conductive Networks toward a High Average Coulombic Efficiency of 90.2% via Plasma-Assisted Milling

open access: yesNanomaterials
Si-based anode is considered one of the ideal anodes for high energy density lithium-ion batteries due to its high theoretical capacity of 4200 mAh g−1. To accelerate the commercial progress of Si material, the multi-issue of extreme volume expansion and

Acacetin reduces endoplasmic reticulum stress through the P‐eNOS/PERK signaling pathway to attenuate MGO‐induced vascular endothelial cell dysfunction

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated a potential protective effect of acacetin, a naturally occurring flavonoid, against methylglyoxal (MGO)‐induced endothelial dysfunction in human umbilical vein endothelial cells and its mechanism of action. Acacetin can could inhibit MGO‐induced intracellular calcium ion influx, enhance the expression levels of phosphorylated ...

Structure of Ethics for Engineers

open access: yesJournal of JSEE, 1997
Modern engineering have been giving the benefit to the mankind as F. Bacon predicted the effect of science. It has done damages to the mankind for their mind, the right of labor, and their circumstance at the same time. The benefit and the damage to the society have become larger and larger since the the beginning of 20th century as seen in the field ...

Mapping Hsp104 interactions using cross‐linking mass spectrometry

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study examines how cross‐linking mass spectrometry can be utilized to analyze ATP‐induced conformational changes in Hsp104 and its interactions with substrates. We developed an analytical pipeline to distinguish between intra‐ and inter‐subunit contacts within the hexameric homo‐oligomer and discovered contacts between Hsp104 and a selected ...

Foundation Model Engineering: Engineering Foundation Models Just as Engineering Software [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
By treating data and models as the source code, Foundation Models (FMs) become a new type of software. Mirroring the concept of software crisis, the increasing complexity of FMs making FM crisis a tangible concern in the coming decade, appealing for new theories and methodologies from the field of software engineering.

Alkane biosynthesis gene expression and its increased production in recombinant cyanobacteria

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The transcription and mRNA structures of the alkane biosynthesis genes ado/aar were analysed in the representative cyanobacteria PCC 6803 and SK1‐2‐1, which produce C17H36 and C15H32, respectively. PCC 6803 transconjugants carrying these genes showed a 1.8‐ to 2.3‐fold increase in C17H36 production.
