Wind loading on tall buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Simple quasi-static treatment of wind loading, which is universally applied to design of typical low to medium-rise structures, can be unacceptably conservative for design of very tall buildings.

The Diagnostics of the Condition and Management of Large-Panel Buildings Using Point Clouds and Building Information Modelling (BIM)

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
Technological developments involving the implementation of modern measuring equipment and the digitalisation of civil engineering can contribute to extending the service life of buildings. Large-panel buildings constitute a large housing stock throughout

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Structural Control Strategies for Earthquake Response Reduction of Buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Destructive seismic events continue to demonstrate the importance of mitigating these hazards to building structures. To protect buildings from such extreme dynamic events, structural control has been considered one of the most effective strategies ...

An mass ratio of permanent loads to variable loads of reinforced concrete buildings

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering
Environmental and resource crises necessitate sustainable development, yet construction lags in material conservation and carbon mitigation. Extensive use of reinforced concrete results in excessive permanent loads and larger building self-weight ...

Seismic Evaluation and Methods of Rehabilitation of Old Masonry Buildings in the Bay of Kotor (Montenegro)

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Old load-bearing masonry buildings exist all around the world. The cultural and architectural heritage value of these buildings and the consciousness of public opinion have led to a need for safeguarding and preservation policies for these ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.
