Sub-pixel edge detection for structural health monitoring

open access: yes, 2009
In structural engineering it is essential to monitor the health of structural members under various load conditions. Traditionally, engineers are required to travel on site to retrieve various test results.

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Extraction of environmental and operational conditions of wind turbines using tower response data for structural health monitoring

open access: yes, 2022
S.2475-2482Proper normalization of structural response data that accounts for the environmental and operational conditions (EOCs) of a structure is a key step in structural health monitoring (SHM) analyses.

Detecting the Presence of High Water-to-Cement Ratio in Concrete Surfaces Using Highly Nonlinear Solitary Waves

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2016
We describe a nondestructive evaluation (NDE) method based on the propagation of highly nonlinear solitary waves (HNSWs) to determine the excess of water on the surface of existing concrete structures.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

On Structural Health Monitoring in Changing Environmental and Operational Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is the monitoring of any type of structure for the express purpose of determining its condition and future lifespan and if, when and where any reparative action is needed.

Unsupervised adaptive feature enhancement network for reliable damage alarm using guided waves under time-varying conditions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Smart and Nano Materials
Structural health monitoring technology is crucial for ensuring the safe operation and reducing maintenance cost of aircraft structures. But complex time-varying conditions, which contain multiple coupled service environment factors, will significantly ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.
