Microscopic stress-constrained two-scale topology optimisation for additive manufacturing
The extraordinary mechanical properties of additive manufactured two-scale lattice structures can be substantially enhanced by employing optimisation techniques at both macroscopic and microscopic scales.

Optimal Respiratory Controller Structures
It has been assumed that there exists an explicit "exercise stimulus" (i. e., a signal that is correlated to metabolic CO2 production and appropriately drives breathing). Alternatively, the behavior of the respiratory controller during exercise and inspiratory CO2 loading may be dictated by an optimal controller. The purpose of this paper is to examine

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

The analytical model of crimping springback for large-diameter longitudinal welded pipe
The crimping technique is widely used in the manufacturing process of large-diameter longitudinal welded pipe. In the bending process, the springback is the critical problem affecting the shape, which is the key index of forming quality.

Optimization of sharp and viewing-angle-independent structural color [PDF]
Structural coloration produces some of the most brilliant colors in nature and has many applications. However, the two competing properties of narrow bandwidth and broad viewing angle have not been achieved simultaneously in previous studies.

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Inverse design of mechanical metamaterial achieving a prescribed constitutive curve
Besides exhibiting excellent capabilities such as energy absorption, phase-transforming metamaterials offer a vast design space for achieving nonlinear constitutive relations. This is facilitated by switching between different patterns under deformation.

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
