Reliability Assessment of Quick Closing Valves in Hydroeletric Power Plant

open access: yesTransactions of the VŠB: Technical University of Ostrava, Civil Engineering Series, 2016
The assessment of existing components of power producing facilities is based on probabilistic methods of the theory of reliability provided in Eurocodes and ISO standards.

The cooperative regulation of miR‐221 by APE1 and AUF1 impacts p27Kip1 defining a miR signature relevant for cervical cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A regulatory axis involving APE1, AUF1, and miR‐221 is proposed. Pri‐miR‐221 is processed by DROSHA and DICER to generate mature miR‐221, which targets p27Kip1 mRNA. APE1 and AUF1 compete for pre‐miR‐221 binding. Reduced APE1/AUF1 levels impair miR‐221 biogenesis, decrease p27Kip1 mRNA degradation, and promote cell cycle progression, chemoresistance ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Reliability and structural integrity [PDF]

open access: yes
An analytic model is developed to calculate the reliability of a structure after it is inspected for cracks. The model accounts for the growth of undiscovered cracks between inspections and their effect upon the reliability after subsequent inspections ...

Pair HMM based gap statistics for re-evaluation of indels in alignments with affine gap penalties: Extended Version

open access: yes, 2010
Although computationally aligning sequence is a crucial step in the vast majority of comparative genomics studies our understanding of alignment biases still needs to be improved.

Reliable fault-tolerant model predictive control of drinking water transport networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper proposes a reliable fault-tolerant model predictive control applied to drinking water transport networks. After a fault has occurred, the predictive controller should be redesigned to cope with the fault effect.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Analyzing network reliability using structural motifs

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2015
This paper uses the reliability polynomial, introduced by Moore and Shannon in 1956, to analyze the effect of network structure on diffusive dynamics such as the spread of infectious disease. We exhibit a representation for the reliability polynomial in terms of what we call {\em structural motifs} that is well suited for reasoning about the effect of ...
