Structural similarity and diversity of sulfotransferases

Chemico-Biological Interactions, 1994
In the present study, four new forms of aryl sulfotransferase cDNAs have been isolated and their structures determined. A compilation of primary structures of 16 different sulfotransferases, including enzymes metabolizing endogenous chemicals and xenobiotics, showed a considerable extent of similarity among bacterial, plant and mammalian species, and ...

Surprising similarities in structure comparison

Current Opinion in Structural Biology, 1996
Examination of a protein's structural 'neighbors' can reveal distant evolutionary relationships that are otherwise undetectable, and perhaps suggest unsuspected functional properties. In the past, such analyses have often required specialized software and computer skills, but new structural comparison methods, developed in the past two years ...

Visualization of structural similarity in proteins

Journal of Molecular Graphics, 1991
Two new methods for the visualization of structural similarity in proteins with known three-dimensional structures are presented. They are based on the degree of equivalence of alpha-carbon pairs in two proteins. The quantitative measure for residue equivalence is the comparison score generated using the sequence and structure alignment method of ...

On structural information similarity measurements

2006 IEEE International Conference on Granular Computing, 2006
Measuring structural similarities is attracting more and more attention from researchers. In this paper, we define structural information content (SIC) for measuring the structural information of a structure, and introduce topological match degree to measure to what extent a subtree is matched.

Diffusion on Self-Similar Structures

Fractals, 1997
Diffusion on self-similar structures is reviewed within a unified theoretical framework. Much attention is devoted to the asymptotic form of the probability density of random walks on fractals, for which analytical solutions are discussed. New predictions for the structure of percolation clusters at criticality are presented.

Similarity Structure and Emergent Properties

Philosophy of Science, 2020
The concept of emergence is commonly invoked in modern physics but rarely defined. Building on recent influential work by Jeremy Butterfield, I provide precise definitions of emergence concepts as they pertain to properties represented in models, applying them to some basic examples from space-time and thermostatistical physics.

STRUCTURE IN SIMILARITY MATRICES

Scandinavian Journal of Psychology, 1972
Waern, Y. Structure in similarity matrices. A graphic approach. Scand. J. Psychol., 1972, 13, 5–16.—The present paper proposes a simple method for representing the structure inherent in the similarity matrix, i.e. a graphic representation. The traditional multidimensional scaling methods are compared with each other and with the graphic representation ...

Similarities in structured spaces of sets

2014 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems (FUZZ-IEEE), 2014
The objective of this paper is to present methodology for similarity evaluation of structured spaces of sets inspired by human cognitive processes. In contrast to classical similarity relations, which can operate only within the same space, our method can be applied to separate spaces.

Measuring Structural Similarity in Music

IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, 2011
This paper presents a novel method for measuring the structural similarity between music recordings. It uses recurrence plot analysis to characterize patterns of repetition in the feature sequence, and the normalized compression distance, a practical approximation of the joint Kolmogorov complexity, to measure the pairwise similarity between the plots.
