Improvising information technology projects through the duality of structure

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Information Management, 2017
Background: There is always emphasis on information technology (IT) projects because of their significance in organisations. Thus, efforts and resources are reciprocally committed to ensure the successes.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

The Adoption and Diffusion of eLearning in UK Universities: A Comparative Case Study Using Giddens’s Theory of Structuration

open access: yes, 2011
This exploratory study identifies the factors that influence the adoption and diffusion of instructional technology at five prominent universities in the United Kingdom. The study examines the organisational factors that enable and inhibit organisational

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Limitations of risk-based artificial intelligence regulation: a structuration theory approach

open access: yesDiscover Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the way we live and work. The disruptive impact and risks of Generative AI have accelerated the global transition from voluntary AI ethics guidelines to mandatory AI regulation.

Structuration Theory and Health and Risk Messaging

open access: yes, 2017
Risk can be defined using a mathematical formula—probability multiplied by consequences. An essential element of risk communication is a focus on messages within organizations.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Structuration Theory

open access: yes, 2005
This important text argues for a "strong" notion of structuration theory in contrast to the seminal but more abstract and relatively under-developed project represented by Anthony Giddens's writings.

The Uses of Giddens' Structuration Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
: Anthony Giddens has made claims for the utility of structuration theory. These claims present structuration theory as a contributant to the post-empiricist reconstruction of theory and application in social science, and, consequently, as ajustification
