The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Mineral Reaction Kinetics During Water–Rock Interactions of Julong Hot Springs, Northern China

open access: yesGeofluids
To elucidate the water–rock interaction mechanisms of the Julong Hot Springs in Changbai Mountain, this study first analyzed the leaching patterns of hydrochemical components in water–rock interactions. The PHREEQC software was then utilized to calculate

Model Predictive Control for Autonomous Driving Based on Time Scaled Collision Cone

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper, we present a Model Predictive Control (MPC) framework based on path velocity decomposition paradigm for autonomous driving. The optimization underlying the MPC has a two layer structure wherein first, an appropriate path is computed for ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Hydrogeochemical characteristics of shallow groundwater and salinization evaluation in the coastal aquifers of Cangzhou, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
To investigate the hydrogeochemical characteristics of shallow groundwater and evaluate groundwater salinization state in Cangzhou, China, two sampling campaigns have been conducted. In summer, 33 groundwater samples, 3 seawater samples and 5 river water

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Optimizing disordered crystal structures

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section C Structural Chemistry, 2023
A mixed-crystal full-molecule disorder situation is revisited in Parkin et al. [Acta Cryst. (2023), C79, 77–82]. A new interpretation of the data leads to the conclusion that the crystal structure is more likely to be a three-component superposition of enantiomers and the meso isomer of an organic compound and the article is thus a good learning ...
