Scalable Tensor Factorizations for Incomplete Data
The problem of incomplete data - i.e., data with missing or unknown values - in multi-way arrays is ubiquitous in biomedical signal processing, network traffic analysis, bibliometrics, social network analysis, chemometrics, computer vision, communication

A new formula for the structured singular value [PDF]
The concept of structured singular value was recently introduced by Doyle as a tool for analysis and synthesis of feedback systems with structured uncertainties. It is a key to the design of control systems under joint robustness and performance specifications and it nicely complements the H? approach to control system design.

Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Generating random density matrices
We study various methods to generate ensembles of random density matrices of a fixed size N, obtained by partial trace of pure states on composite systems.

This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Approximate structured singular value computation via Frobenius norms [PDF]
Two algorithms are presented to aid in the approximation of the structured singular value through minimization of the Frobenius norm. The first algorithm allows the uncertain terms to be complex. The second algorithm considers only real variations for real uncertain terms. An example problem is included, and advantages and disadvantages are discussed. >

Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.
