Subchondral and trabecular bone metabolism regulation in canine experimental knee osteoarthritis [PDF]

open access: yesOsteoarthritis and Cartilage, 2005
To determine trabecular and subchondral bone metabolic changes in experimental canine osteoarthritis (OA).OA was induced in 19 dogs by transection of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the right knee through a stab wound. Dogs were sacrificed at 8 (n=7) and 12 weeks (n=12) after surgery. Non-operated normal dogs (n=6) were used as controls.

Abnormal subchondral trabecular bone remodeling in knee osteoarthritis under the influence of knee alignment

Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, 2022
This study aimed to investigate the abnormal subchondral trabecular bone (STB) remodeling in knee osteoarthritis (OA) under the influence of knee alignment [hip-knee-ankle (HKA) angle].Forty-one patients with knee OA underwent radiographic examination before total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for the measurement of HKA angle.

Subchondral and trabecular bone remodeling in canine experimental osteoarthritis

Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 2005
We wanted to test the hypothesis that quality changes occur in early-stage arthritic subchondral cancellous bone after acute subchondral damage. So far, not much attention has been paid to changes of the subchondral bone after traumatic subchondral lesions. With an established animal model, we produced pure subchondral damage without initial affection ...

Trabecular bone strain changes associated with subchondral stiffening of the proximal tibia

Journal of Biomechanics, 2003
Subchondral stiffening is a hallmark pathologic feature of osteoarthritis but its mechanical and temporal relationship to the initiation or the progression of osteoarthritis is not established. The mechanical effect of subchondral stiffening on the surrounding trabecular bone is poorly understood.

Bone mineral measurements of subchondral and trabecular bone in healthy and osteoporotic rabbits

Skeletal Radiology, 2005
Experimental models of osteoporosis in rabbits are useful to investigate anabolic agents because this animal has a fast bone turnover with predominant remodelling over the modelling processes. For that purpose, it is necessary to characterize the densitometric values of each type of bony tissue. To determine areal bone mass measurement in the spine and ...

Biomechanics of the Femoral Head Cartilage and Subchondral Trabecular Bone in Osteoporotic and Osteopenic Fractures

Annals of Biomedical Engineering, 2021
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the micro structural properties of the subchondral trabecular bone (STB) and the macro mechanical properties of the articular cartilage (AC) in patients with osteoporotic (OP) and osteopenic (OPE) fractures.
