An overview and categorization of man‐made per‐ or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) including low‐molar‐mass and high‐molar‐mass fluorochemicals, and their international regulations is presented. Though certain PFASs are toxic, bioaccumulative and cross the human cellular membranes, others, such as fluoropolymers, are safe, reliable and involved in ...

The characteristics of squall lines in the Southeast Asia region
Squall lines over the Maritime Continent were analysed using 20 years of IMERG GPM data and classified into four regional clusters. Significant regional differences were found in their size, intensity, lifespan, and propagation. Nighttime squall lines are primarily driven by the convergence of opposing offshore flows and the convergence of monsoonal ...

Valorization of Cork Using Subcritical Water
Granulated cork was submitted to subcritical water extraction/hydrolysis in a semi-continuous reactor at temperatures in the range of 120–200 °C and with a constant pressure of 100 bar. The influence of temperature on the composition of the cork extracts

Mapping River Bed Topography in Whitewater Rapids Using Bathymetric LiDAR
ABSTRACT Bathymetric LiDAR captures river topography efficiently for clear and shallow water, but for mountain rivers, whitewater rapids still pose challenges. This study proposes a novel method to enable the extraction of bottom returns specifically in turbulent whitewater sections.

Subcritical Water Extraction of Lycopene from Tomato Waste
Subcritical water extraction (SWE) of lycopene from tomato waste and antioxidant activities was studied with response surface design. The optimal extracting conditions were identified as follows: 10g tomato waste sample with 73.8 ml double-distilled water, extraction temperature 192.01°C, and extraction time 15.80 min.

Software to Support Remote Sensing of River Discharge Based on Critical Flow Theory
ABSTRACT Water resource management requires accurate observations of streamflow but standard field methods for measuring river discharge (Q$$ Q $$) can be costly and hazardous for equipment and personnel. Remote sensing has become a viable alternative, but many image‐based techniques require field data for calibration, and depth and velocity can seldom

Subcritical Water Extraction of Barley to Produce a Functional Drink [PDF]
We investigated the effects of various temperatures between 150 and 280 degrees C during subcritical water extraction of barley to make a barley tea-like extract, a popular summer beverage in Japan. Each barley extract was analyzed for sensory properties, antioxidative activity, and the amount of residual matter, which revealed 205 degrees C to be the ...

The last (Wisconsinan) glacial period was punctuated in North America by two glacial maxima, known as the Early and Late Wisconsinan glaciations. In Alaska, these maxima and their subsequent retreats have been the object of dating efforts to reconstruct local climatic events and compare them to global trends.
