Ecostructuring of marine nematode communities by submarine groundwater discharge
Marine Environmental Research, 2018Inputs of submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) to the coastal ocean may alter local and regional-scale biology. Here, we report on nematode assemblages along the north shore of Long Island, NY. We test if nematode communities differed between sites impacted by mixed fresh-saline SGD and where SGD is exclusively saline.

The Coral Triangle: A Hotspot for Submarine Groundwater Discharge
2023Coral reefs are some of the most biologically diverse habitats in the world. They provide economic value to many coastal communities through fisheries and tourism. Coral reef ecosystems are especially valuable in the Coral Triangle (CT), an area in the western Pacific Ocean.

The typological approach to submarine groundwater discharge (SGD)
Biogeochemistry, 2003Coastal zone managers need to factor submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) in their integration. SGD provides a pathway for the transfer of freshwater, and its dissolved chemical burden, from the land to the coastal ocean. SGD reduces salinities and provides nutrients to specialized coastal habitats. It also can be a pollutant source, often undetected,

Eddy correlation measurements of submarine groundwater discharge
Marine Chemistry, 2008Abstract This paper presents a new, non-invasive means of quantifying groundwater discharge into marine waters using an eddy correlation approach. The method takes advantage of the fact that, in virtually all aquatic environments, the dominant mode of vertical transport near the sediment–water interface is turbulent mixing.

Hydrogeological Conditions of Submarine Groundwater Discharge in the Crimea
Water Resources, 2001A structural hydrogeological model of the Crimea based on the assumption of the leading role of faults in groundwater distribution is discussed. Areas with intense submarine groundwater discharge are outlined. The existence of water streams related to the faults in the area of the Chernaya River, Mramornaya Gully, Varnautskaya Depression, Batiliman Bay,

Groundwater discharge and submarine geothermal phenomena
2018The submarine or coastal groundwater outflow is often due or overlapped to important offshore geothermal phenomena, which contribute to modify geochemical water characteristics, sometime adding relevant gases outflow fractions. The peculiarities of these natural phenomena create uncommon difficulties to the geological, geochemical, and hydrogeological ...
