Substance Use Disorder in the CRNA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Substance use disorder (SUD) affects the anesthesia community disproportionally as compared to the general public (Rupprecht, 2022). It is estimated that SUD will affect 10%-15% of all anesthesia providers at some point in their careers (Rupprecht, 2022).

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

METTL3 knockout accelerates hepatocarcinogenesis via inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum stress response

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Liver‐specific knockout of N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) methyltransferase METTL3 significantly accelerated hepatic tumor initiation under various oncogenic challenges, contrary to the previously reported oncogenic role of METTL3 in liver cancer cell lines or xenograft models. Mechanistically, METTL3 deficiency reduced m6A deposition on Manf transcripts and

A Bayesian Learning Model for Joint Risk Prediction of Alcohol and Cannabis Use Disorders [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Substance use disorders (SUDs) are a serious public health concern in the United States. Alcohol and cannabis are two of the most widely used substances. For adolescent/youth users of alcohol or cannabis, we propose a joint Bayesian learning model to predict their risks of developing alcohol use disorder (AUD) and cannabis use disorder (CUD) in ...

Possible role of human ribonuclease dicer in the regulation of R loops

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
R loops play an important role in regulating key cellular processes such as replication, transcription, centromere stabilization, or control of telomere length. However, the unscheduled accumulation of R loops can cause many diseases, including cancer, and neurodegenerative or inflammatory disorders. Interestingly, accumulating data indicate a possible
