Fabrication and oxidation resistance of mullite/yttrium silicate multilayer coatings on C/SiC composites

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics, 2017
A tri-layer coating of mullite/Y2Si2O7/(70wt%Y2Si2O7+30wt%Y2SiO5) was prepared on carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide (C/SiC) composite substrate through dip-coating route for the sake of improving oxidation resistance of C/SiC composites.

Inhibitor specificity of amine oxidase [PDF]

open access: yes, 1943
Although at the present time it appears clear that amine oxidase oxidation of adrenalin, or other o-diphenolic pressor amines such as were studied by Richter (6), does not play a significant physiological role, it is equally clear that the inactivation ...

Establishment of a coculture system for Porphyromonas gingivalis and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma using spheroid culture and LATS inhibition

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We established a spheroid coculture system enabling viable Porphyromonas gingivalis–HNSCC interactions under normoxic conditions. Inhibition of LATS1/2 maintains tumor cells in an undifferentiated state, which may promote spheroid growth and create a more permissive environment for bacterial persistence.

Substrate influence on the frying process

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 1998
The substrate affects frying oil in different ways during the frying. Water is released from the substrate, which is converted into steam and participates in hydrolytical processes of frying fats.

Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

Preparation and performances of Ni-Fe/CrNx dual layer coatings for ferritic stainless steel interconnects

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
Dual layer coatings CrNx and Ni-Fe alloy have been developed for metallic interconnects application by a combined approach. The CrNx layer was deposited on ferritic stainless steel using multi-arc ion plating, and the Ni-Fe alloy coating was ...

Boron Nitride Nanosheets for Metal Protection

open access: yes, 2014
Although the high impermeability of graphene makes it an excellent barrier to inhibit metal oxidation and corrosion, graphene can form a galvanic cell with the underlying metal that promotes corrosion of the metal in the long term.

Catalysts on Demand: Selective Oxidations by Laboratory-Evolved Cytochrome P450 BM3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Efficient catalysts for selective oxidation of C-H bonds using atmospheric oxygen are highly desirable to decrease the economic and environmental costs associated with conventional oxidation processes.

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.

The Acute Effect of a Single Exhaustive Sprint Exercise Session on Post-Exercise Fat Oxidation Rate

open access: yesBiomedical Human Kinetics, 2018
It is well known that substrate oxidation rates are increased by exercise. The present study had two main objectives: firstly, to examine the effect of a single exhaustive exercise session on post-exercise substrate oxidation and energy expenditure; and ...
