Amplified singlet oxygen generation in metallated-porphyrin doped conjugated polymer nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We report on the mechanism and efficiencies of singlet oxygen O2(1Δg) generation of nanoparticles (NP) of the conjugated polymer (CP) poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-alt-benzothiadiazole) (F8BT) doped with platinum octaethylporphyrin (PtOEP) suspended in water.

Lactate: The Ultimate Cerebral Oxidative Energy Substrate? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism, 2006
Research over the past two decades has renewed the interest in lactate, no longer as a useless end product of anaerobic glycolysis in brain (and other tissues), but as an oxidative substrate for energy metabolism. While this topic would be considered blasphemy only three decades ago, much recent evidence indicates that lactate does play a major role ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Human HDL subclasses modulate energy metabolism in skeletal muscle cells

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research
In addition to its antiatherogenic role, HDL reportedly modulates energy metabolism at the whole-body level. HDL functionality is associated with its structure and composition, and functional activities can differ between HDL subclasses.

Ultrasonic treatment with nickel electroplating combined with oxidation for developing γ-Al2O3 washcoat on Fe-Cr-Al substrate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Fe-Cr-Al is used as metallic support for catalytic converter due to its high thermal conductivity, lower heat capacity, high temperature and mechanical shock resistance. γ-Al2O3 is the most widely used material as washcoat which embedded on metallic

An investigation into the effect of thickness of titanium dioxide and gold-silver nanoparticle titanium dioxide composite thin-films on photocatalytic activity and photo-induced oxygen production in a sacrificial system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Thin films of titanium dioxide and titanium dioxide with incorporated gold and silver nanoparticles were deposited onto glass microscope slides, steel and titanium foil coupons by two sol–gel dip-coating methods.

Mechanisms of cytochrome P450 substrate oxidation: MiniReview [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, 2007
AbstractCytochrome P450 (P450) enzymes catalyze a variety of oxidation and some reduction reactions, collectively involving thousands of substrates. A general chemical mechanism can be used to rationalize most of the oxidations and involves a perfenyl intermediate (FeO3+) and odd‐electron chemistry, i.e.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Two steps CrAlFeSi coating on low carbon steel prepared by mechanical alloying and its oxidation properties [PDF]

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
Two steps CrAlFeSi coating has been fabricated on low carbon steel via mechanical alloying methods and its oxidation properties have been elucidated thoroughly. First, Al coating was deposited on the low carbon steel substrate via mechanical alloying for

Literature survey on oxidations and fatigue lives at elevated temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes
Nickel-base superalloys are the most complex and the most widely used for high temperature applications such as aircraft engine components. The desirable properties of nickel-base superalloys at high temperatures are tensile strength, thermomechanical ...
