Subventricular zone involvement is associated with worse outcome in glioma WHO grade 2 depending on molecular markers

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Neural stem cells within the subventricular zone were identified as cells of origin driving growth of high-grade gliomas, and anatomical involvement of the subventricular zone has been associated with an inferior clinical outcome. Whether the association

Targeting the neural stem cells in subventricular zone for the treatment of glioblastoma: an update from preclinical evidence to clinical interventions

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy, 2023
Background Glioblastoma is one of the most common and aggressive adult brain tumors. The conventional treatment strategy, surgery combined with chemoradiotherapy, did not change the fact that the recurrence rate was high and the survival rate was low ...

Periventricular zone involvement as a predictor of survival in glioblastoma patients: A single centre cohort-comparison investigation concerning a distinct clinical entity

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Neurosurgery, 2021
Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) contacting the Subventricular Zone (SVZ) may display a more aggressive pattern of invasiveness with higher potential to recruit migratory progenitor cells.

To Become or Not to Become Tumorigenic: Subventricular Zone Versus Hippocampal Neural Stem Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
Neural stem cells (NSCs) persist in the adult mammalian brain in two neurogenic regions: the subventricular zone lining the lateral ventricles and the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus.

ADAM10 facilitates rapid neural stem cell cycling and proper positioning within the subventricular zone niche via JAMC/RAP1Gap signaling

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2022
[INLINE:1] The mechanisms that regulate neural stem cell (NSC) lineage progression and maintain NSCs within different domains of the adult neural stem cell niche, the subventricular zone are not well defined.

Wnt signaling enhances neurogenesis and improves neurological function after focal ischemic injury. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Stroke potently stimulates cell proliferation in the subventricular zone of the lateral ventricles with subsequent neuroblast migration to the injured striatum and cortex. However, most of the cells do not survive and mature.

TULP4, a novel E3 ligase gene, participates in neuronal migration as a candidate in schizophrenia

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, EarlyView., 2023
Mutations identified from four SCZ pedigrees resulted in decreased TULP4 expression. Tulp4 knockdown caused delayed neuron migration in embryonic mice, and impaired cognition and prepulse inhibition in adult mice. These phenotypes may be related to TULP4 through its involvement in the formation of a novel E3 ubiquitin ligases.

Adult neural stem cell dysfunction in the subventricular zone of the lateral ventricle leads to diabetic olfactory defects

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2017
Sensitive smell discrimination is based on structural plasticity of the olfactory bulb, which depends on migration and integration of newborn neurons from the subventricular zone.

Protein expression differs between neural progenitor cells from the adult rat brain subventricular zone and olfactory bulb

open access: yesBMC Neuroscience, 2008
Background Neural progenitor cells can be isolated from various regions of the adult mammalian brain, including the forebrain structures of the subventricular zone and the olfactory bulb.

Neural progenitor cells isolated from the subventricular zone present hemichannel activity and form functional gap junctions with glial cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2015
The postnatal subventricular zone lining the walls of the lateral ventricles contains neural progenitor cells (NPCs) that generate new olfactory bulb interneurons.
