Fowlpox Virus in the Sudan

A virulent fowlpox virus was isolated from a natural outbreak of the disease in the Sudan. The virus was used for experimental transmission of the disease to susceptible chickens. Scarification and intravenous methods were used to infect one-month-old chickens.

Evaluation of Febrile Patients in Port Sudan, Sudan: Isolation of Dengue Virus

One hundred consecutive patients admitted to the Port Sudan Hospital with a temperature greater than or equal to 100 degrees F were evaluated. Enteric fever was diagnosed in 19 patients and malaria in 13. Virologic studies identified 21 cases of dengue infection. One dengue 1 and 17 dengue 2 infections were diagnosed by viral isolation.

Serological examinations of HIV-I virus in Sudan.

1614 blood samples from men and women in the Upper Nile region, Melut district (southern Sudan) were examined for HIV-antibodies. 109 samples were positive twice in the ELISA test, and 18 (1.1%) were confirmed by the IFT and Western Blot test.
