Structural and functional characterization of chitinase from carnivorous plant Drosera adelae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A class I chitinase from the carnivorous plant Drosera adelae was expressed and purified using a yeast system, revealing high enzymatic activity. Structural analyses of the catalytic and chitin‐binding domains identified key tyrosine residues involved in substrate binding, offering insights into the enzyme's adaptation for insect digestion.

Brassinosteroids promote parenchyma cell and secondary xylem development in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) root

open access: yesPlant Direct, 2021
Increasing crop yield has always been an important goal in agriculture. Brassinosteroids (BRs) are growth‐promoting steroid hormones with vital roles in many root developmental processes.

Coping with the fallout for preference-receiving countries from EU sugar reform. [PDF]

open access: yes
Developing countries can produce sugar at much lower cost than in the EU, yet reform of the EU sugar policy will result in both winners and losers among them. This is because the EU is both an exporter and importer of sugar. Sugar policy reform will mean

Genome-wide identification, characterization, and expression patterns of the BZR transcription factor family in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.)

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2019
Background BRASSINAZOLE-RESISTANT (BZR) family genes encode plant-specific transcription factors (TFs) that participate in brassinosteroid signal transduction. BZR TFs have vital roles in plant growth, including cell elongation.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

A generalization of the Shell Theorem. Electric potential of charged spheres and charged vesicles surrounded by electrolyte

open access: yesAIMS Biophysics, 2020
By using the screened Coulomb potential a generalized version of Newton’s Shell Theorem is developed and analytical equations are derived to calculate i) the potential of a charged sphere surrounded by electrolyte, ii) the potential of two concentric ...

Nonlinear Lifting-Line Model using a Vector Formulation of the Unsteady Kutta-Joukowski Theorem [PDF]

open access: yesINCAS Bulletin, 2019
In this paper, a vector form of the unsteady Kutta-Joukowski theorem is derived and then used in the formulation of a general Lifting-Line Model capable of analysing a wide range of engineering problems of interest.
