A new class of sugar analogues for use in the investigation of sugar transport
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1985D-Mannose derivatives have been synthesised which are crosslinked through their C-4 hydroxyls to propyl-2-amine. Coupling to the amino group gave a fluorodinitrobenzene derivative, a nitroazidophenyl derivative and an azidosalicylamide derivative. Each of these derivatives was shown to have high affinity for the human erythrocyte sugar transport system.

Current Opinion in Structural Biology, 1991
Proteins that catalyse the transport of sugars may be fundamentally similar to proteins that catalyse the transport of many other substrates, both into and out of cells. The number of sugar transport proteins with known amino acid sequences has increased considerably, but there is still insufficient understanding of their three-dimensional structures ...

Transport of Sugars in Bacteria
1979Bacteria are free-living microorganisms often confronted with a large variety of environments. The occurrence in nature of different substances as main carbon source for their nutrition and the selective advantage of metabolizing fast any of these for fast proliferation promoted the development along the evolution of different adaptive uptake and ...

The transportation of sugar cane in Queensland’s sugar industry
2012The sugar industry is Queensland's most significant rural industry and one of the most important agricultural industries in Australia. Queensland's sugar industry produces 95% of Australia's sugar cane, worth almost $2 billion dollars to the state's economy (Australian Sugar Milling Council; Canegrowers 2010).
