Combining Deep Learning and Street View Imagery to Map Smallholder Crop Types [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Accurate crop type maps are an essential source of information for monitoring yield progress at scale, projecting global crop production, and planning effective policies. To date, however, crop type maps remain challenging to create in low and middle-income countries due to a lack of ground truth labels for training machine learning models.

Lignocellulose hydrolytic enzymes production by Aspergillus flavus KUB2 using submerged fermentation of sugarcane bagasse waste

open access: yesMycology, 2020
Lignocellulosic wastes, rice straw, sugarcane bagasse, rice bran and sawdust, and pure commercial carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and xylan were used as substrates to cultivate cellulolytic fungus, Aspergillus flavus KUB2, in submerged fermentation at 30°C.

Incorporating economic multipliers in a bid adjustment algorithm for public food procurement decision making

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract We present an adjusted bid price mechanism that incorporates economic multiplier effects in public food procurement decision making. Under Input–Output model assumptions, the algorithm estimates enhanced tax revenues to state governments through multiplier effects associated with in‐state supplier purchasing.

Beyond Sugar and Ethanol Production: Value Generation Opportunities Through Sugarcane Residues

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2020
Sugarcane is the most produced agricultural commodity in tropical and subtropical regions, where it is primarily used for the production of sugar and ethanol. The latter is mostly used to produce alcoholic beverages as well as low carbon biofuel. Despite

Integrated Green Biorefinery for the Production of Anthocyanins, Fermentable Sugars, and High Pure Lignin from Miscanthus × giganteus

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
Integrated production of pigments, fermentation sugars, and pure lignin has been investigated for the creation of profitable biorefinery developments. Choline chloride‐based natural deep eutectic solvents possess unique solvent capabilities to interact with plant cell wall components to disintegrate lignin‐carbohydrate complex.

Effect of cryopreservation on the structural and functional integrity of cell membranes of sugarcane (Saccharum sp.) embryogenic calluses [PDF]

open access: yesCryoletters, Volume 23, Number 4, July 2002, pp. 237-244, 2018
In this paper, we investigated if the differences consistently noted in survival and plantlet production between cryopreserved and non-cryopreserved, control sugarcane embryogenic calluses were related to modifications induced during cryopreservation in the structural and functional integrity of cell membranes.

Sugarcane Health Monitoring With Satellite Spectroscopy and Machine Learning: A Review [PDF]

open access: yesComput. Electron. Agric. 2025, 229, 109686
Research into large-scale crop monitoring has flourished due to increased accessibility to satellite imagery. This review delves into previously unexplored and under-explored areas in sugarcane health monitoring and disease/pest detection using satellite-based spectroscopy and Machine Learning (ML). It discusses key considerations in system development,
