Pea and canola enrich distinct rhizosphere bacterial communities even under intercropping

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Microorganisms have implications for plant health and agricultural production, yet we are just beginning to understand the complexity of plant–microbe interactions in multispecies environments. Studies conducted to date have shown that plants are able to control the makeup of their microbial communities, yet their ability to control these ...

Investigating interactions between macroinvertebrate indices, water quality parameters, and stream quality classifications in a Wisconsin agricultural watershed

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Quality, Volume 55, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
Abstract Increasing agricultural and urban land use poses a growing threat to freshwater ecosystems worldwide, contributing to nutrient loading and degradation of surface water quality. Stream restoration, such as riparian vegetation, can help mitigate nonpoint source pollution, yet its ecological outcomes remain variable.

Microbial nitrogen removal and recycling in the redox transition zone of a meromictic lake and its coupling to sulfur cycling

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Organotrophic denitrification is an important nitrogen (N) removal process in lakes, but alternative N reduction processes such as lithotrophic sulfur (S)‐oxidizing denitrification may be greatly underappreciated. We studied the redox transition zone (RTZ) in the meromictic water column of the North Basin of Lake Lugano (Switzerland) to ...

Ramalin Ameliorates Alzheimer's Disease Pathology by Targeting BACE1, HDAC6, and MAPK Pathways

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
Ramalin alleviates Alzheimer's disease pathology by selectively inhibiting HDAC6, reducing BACE1 levels, and suppressing neuroinflammation through downregulation of the NLRP3 inflammasome and iNOS. It restores synaptic function impaired by Aβ toxicity and improves cognitive performance in AD mouse models, APP/PS1 and 3xTg‐AD.
