From Viscose to Lyocell‐Type Fibers: Chemical Recycling of Viscose and Modal Fibers Using the Ioncell Process

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
Using the Ioncell process, the recycling of low DP textile waste via four case studies, white, blue, and black viscose and white modal fibers, was investigated. The most common man‐made cellulose fiber (MMCF) is viscose, a low DP material made of plant‐based cellulose, and it accounts for less than 6% of the total amount of textile fibers.

Magnetic‐Field Control of Surface States in CoFe2O4 Thin Films for Nitrate Electroreduction to Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 51, 25 June 2026.
Magnetic‐field‐assisted CVD of heterometallic single‐source precursors modulates thin‐film surface electronic structure and interfacial charge transfer. Field‐grown (Cobalt ferrite‐1T)CF‐1T films exhibit stabilized electronic states, lower kinetic barriers, and markedly enhanced nitrate‐to‐ammonia electrocatalysis versus (Cobalt ferrite‐0T) CF‐0T ...

Influence of Nitrogen in Sulfurized Polymer‐Based Cathode Materials on Electrochemical Performance in Lithium–Sulfur Batteries: Electrochemical and Computational Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
Sulfurized poly(styrene) (SPS) and sulfurized poly(vinylpyridine) (SPVP) containing ≥60 wt.% sulfur materials were synthesized by a scalable single‐step method and used as cathode materials for Li–S batteries. Both materials have high discharge capacity and long cycle life.

Stimuli‐Responsive Hydrogels for Optical Applications: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Translational Challenges

open access: yesAggregate, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
The review discusses stimuli‐responsive hydrogels as soft optical materials that translate physical, chemical, and biological cues into refractive‐index, scattering, birefringence, diffraction, and transparency changes. It examines major stimulus classes and photonic architectures for biosensing, waveguiding, adaptive lenses, smart windows, and therapy.

Complete Genome of an Alkali‐Resistant Rhizobium anhuiense Symbiont of Pea Reveals Species‐Specific Plasmid Fusion and Genomic Plasticity

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Rhizobium anhuiense strain Xianghu001 is an alkali‐tolerant, nitrogen‐fixing symbiont isolated from pea (Pisum sativum) root nodules. Genome sequencing revealed a lineage‐specific megaplasmid fusion and high plasmid plasticity. Functional assays confirmed its plant growth‐promoting traits, including increased total nitrogen content and IAA production ...

Hydrogen Gas Enhances Salinity Tolerance in Tomato Seedlings by Regulating the S‐Nitrosylation of MEK1

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 6, Page 3656-3678, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Hydrogen gas (H2) effectively alleviates abiotic stress in horticultural plants. Protein S‐nitrosylation, a key post‐translational modification, serves as a critical mechanism for nitric oxide (NO) to exert its biological function under adverse conditions.

Spin Crossover around Room Temperature: Effects of Remote Ligand Symmetry Breaking within Jäger‐Type Iron(II) Complexes

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, Volume 652, Issue 8, 25 May 2026.
Remote symmetry breaking in Jäger‐type iron(II) complexes shifts stepwise spin crossover (SCO) profiles to continuous profiles with transition temperatures around room temperature. In a bottom‐up approach, we studied the feedback of slight molecular modifications on the spin crossover (SCO) properties of otherwise structurally conserved iron(II ...

Design Principles and Mechanistic Understanding of Cobalt‐Oxide‐Based Electrocatalysts for Nitrate Reduction to Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 10, Issue 5, May 2026.
Electrocatalytic nitrate reduction (EC‐NO3− RR) over Co3O4 and X–Co3O4 catalysts enables efficient conversion of NO3− to NH3. Tailored electronic structures enhance nitrate adsorption, activation, and selectivity, highlighting advances in catalyst design, reaction mechanisms, and analytical methods for sustainable ammonia production and future energy ...
