Sulfur diagenesis in marine sediments [PDF]
Bacterial sulfate reduction occurs in all marine sediments that contain organic matter. Aqueous sulfide (HS-, H2S), one of the initial products of bacterial sulfide reduction, is extremely reactive with iron bearing minerals: sulfur is fixed into ...

Microbial methanogenesis in the sulfate-reducing zone of surface sediments traversing the Peruvian margin [PDF]
We studied the concurrence of methanogenesis and sulfate reduction in surface sediments (0–25 cm below sea floor, cmbsf) at six stations (70, 145, 253, 407, 770 and 1024 m) along the Peruvian margin (12° S).

Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Sex Hormones Associate With Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Risk and Survival
ABSTRACT Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) risk differs by sex and age, implicating sex hormones as potential modifiers. This study examined plasma levels of biologically active sex hormones and their association with ALS odds and survival in cases (females n = 131, males n = 189) and controls (females n = 138, males n = 150) from the University of ...

Anaerobic Oxidation of Ethane, Propane, and Butane by Marine Microbes: A Mini Review
The deep ocean and its sediments are a continuous source of non-methane short-chain alkanes (SCAs) including ethane, propane, and butane. Their high global warming potential, and contribution to local carbon and sulfur budgets has drawn significant ...

Effect of intrauterine morphine sulfate exposure on cerebellar histomorphological changes in neonatal mice [PDF]
Neurotoxic effects of morphine sulfate in adult cerebellar cortex and neonatal cerebral cortex have been studied in animal models. This study was done to determine the neurotoxic effects of prenatal morphine exposure on the histo morphological changes of

β‐Catenin/c‐Myc Axis Modulates Autophagy Response to Different Ammonia Concentrations
Ammonia, detoxified by the liver into urea and glutamine, impacts autophagy differently at varying levels. Low ammonia activates autophagy via c‐Myc and β‐catenin, while high levels suppress it. Using Huh7 cells and Spf‐ash mice, c‐Myc's role in cytoprotective autophagy is revealed, offering insights into hyperammonemia and potential therapeutic ...

Can Ti‐Based MXenes Serve as Solid Lubricants for Brake Applications? A Tribological Study
This study explores the first implementation of Ti‐based MXenes materials in brake pad friction composite material. The resulting composite material exhibits a 48% reduction in the wear rate; alongside significant improvements are observed for thermal and mechanical properties.
