Sulfonated, Disulfide‐Bridged Polymer Networks for Atmospheric Water Harvesting

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Atmospheric water harvesting is a promising solution to the water crisis. Here, disulfide‐containing hyper‐crosslinked‐style polymers are prepared by combined Friedel–Crafts alkylation and thiol self‐condensation. Exhibiting exceptional uptake capacities, the polymers demonstrate dynamic bonding behavior.

Analyzing the Catalytic Role of Active Site Residues in the Fe-type Nitrile Hydratase from \u3cem\u3eComamonas testosteroni\u3c/em\u3e Ni1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A strictly conserved active site arginine residue (αR157) and two histidine residues (αH80 and αH81) located near the active site of the Fe-type nitrile hydratase from Comamonas testosteroni Ni1 (CtNHase), were mutated. These mutant enzymes were examined

Biological hydropersulfides and related polysulfides – a new concept and perspective in redox biology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The chemical biology of thiols (RSH, e.g., cysteine and cysteine‐containing proteins/peptides) has been a topic of extreme interest for many decades due to their reported roles in protein structure/folding, redox signaling, metal ligation, cellular ...

Research advances in the applications of mitochondria‐targeted cyanine dyes in imaging

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Near‐infrared (NIR) fluorescence imaging, a novel non‐invasive diagnostic tool, plays a crucial role in the imaging and monitoring of solid tumors. At its core are NIR fluorescent dyes, which are widely utilized due to their ability to minimize tissue autofluorescence interference, thereby significantly enhancing the signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) and ...

Multiple States of Nitrile Hydratase from Rhodococcus equi TG328-2: Structural and Mechanistic Insights from Electron Paramagnetic Resonance and Density Functional Theory Studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Iron-type nitrile hydratases (NHases) contain an Fe(III) ion coordinated in a characteristic “claw setting” by an axial cysteine thiolate, two equatorial peptide nitrogens, the sulfur atoms of equatorial cysteine-sulfenic and cysteine-sulfinic acids, and

Redox Proteomics and Platelet Activation: Understanding the Redox Proteome to Improve Platelet Quality for Transfusion. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Blood banks use pathogen inactivation (PI) technologies to increase the safety of platelet concentrates (PCs). The characteristics of PI-treated PCs slightly differ from those of untreated PCs, but the underlying reasons are not well understood.

Linking Superoxide Production and Scavenging in Plant Development

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 4, Page 2048-2068, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Due to their strong oxidizing potential, rapid membrane permeability, and high reactivity, reactive oxygen species (ROS) play essential roles in plant development and stress responses. Superoxide (O2•‐) is a primary product of molecular oxygen reduction and a crucial source of hydrogen peroxide, representing a ROS species of substantial ...

Molecular Mechanisms of the Methionine Sulfoxide Reductase System from Neisseria meningitidis

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2018
Neisseria meningitidis, an obligate pathogenic bacterium in humans, has acquired different defense mechanisms to detect and fight the oxidative stress generated by the host’s defense during infection.

Modulation of FLT3 signal transduction through cytoplasmic cysteine residues indicates the potential for redox regulation

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2020
Oxidative modification of cysteine residues has been shown to regulate the activity of several protein-tyrosine kinases. We explored the possibility that Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3), a hematopoietic receptor-tyrosine kinase, is subject to this type

NOX4-dependent Hydrogen peroxide promotes shear stress-induced SHP2 sulfenylation and eNOS activation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
© 2015 Elsevier Inc.All rights reserved. Laminar shear stress (LSS) triggers signals that ultimately result in atheroprotection and vasodilatation. Early responses are related to the activation of specific signaling cascades.
