An Essential Role for Tomato Sulfite Oxidase and Enzymes of the Sulfite Network in Maintaining Leaf Sulfite Homeostasis [PDF]
Abstract Little is known about the homeostasis of sulfite levels, a cytotoxic by-product of plant sulfur turnover. By employing extended dark to induce catabolic pathways, we followed key elements of the sulfite network enzymes that include adenosine-5′-phosphosulfate reductase and the sulfite scavengers sulfite oxidase (SO), sulfite ...

Adsorption‐Engineered Hydrocarbon Ionomers for Durable Proton‐Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells
Hydrocarbon ionomers suffer from oxidation‐driven interfacial degradation in PEM fuel cell cathodes, leading to catalyst instability. Here, adsorption‐engineered poly(fluorene) ionomers decouple interfacial anchoring from oxidative degradation, enabling strong catalyst–ionomer interactions while resisting electrochemical oxidation.

Increasing plant tolerance to sulfites/SO2 can lead to the development of tolerant crops to biotic and abiotic stresses. Plant sulfite oxidase (SO) is a molybdo-enzyme that oxidizes excess SO2/sulfite into non-toxic sulfate.

The Mechanisms of Thiosulfate Toxicity against Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Elemental sulfur and sulfite have been used to inhibit the growth of yeasts, but thiosulfate has not been reported to be toxic to yeasts. We observed that thiosulfate was more inhibitory than sulfite to Saccharomyces cerevisiae growing in a common yeast ...

Tailored D‐π Conjugation Boosts Piezocatalytic CO2 Reduction in a Platinum(II)‐Acetylide Framework
The highly conjugated metalII‐acetylide framework demonstrates efficient ultrasound‐driven conversion of CO2 to CO. The piezoelectric field generated by ultrasound facilitates electron transfer from the tetraphenylene π‐column to the MII‐bis(acetylide) moiety, enabling CO2 activation. Compared to PdII‐ and NiII‐based analogues, the stronger d–π orbital

Electrolyte formulation is shown to govern both interphase chemistry and bulk phase evolution in Sb/graphite anodes for potassium‐ion batteries. A diglyme‐based localized high‐concentration electrolyte promotes a thin inorganic‐rich interphase, suppresses deep graphite potassiation, limits electrode swelling, and stabilizes amorphous KxSb formation ...
