Synthesis of fructo-oligosaccharides using grape must and sucrose as raw materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Grape must market has been rising and there is an increasing interest to use it as a natural replacement for traditional sugars. Food or beverages with prebiotic compounds, including fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), emerge as an alternative for the new ...

Integrated genomic and transcriptomic approaches reveal oxidative stress adaptation mechanisms in a mesotrione‐resistant Amaranthus tuberculatus biotype

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Integrated GWAS and transcriptomics in a Canadian waterhemp biotype reveal mesotrione resistance is polygenic and metabolically driven. Significant SNPs and 187 herbicide‐responsive genes point to enhanced redox homeostasis, glutathione‐linked detoxification, lipid/secondary metabolism, and oxidative stress responses. Resistance arises from coordinated,

Case Report: Compound Heterozygous Variants in MOCS3 Identified in a Chinese Infant With Molybdenum Cofactor Deficiency

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2021
Background: The molybdenum cofactor (Moco) deficiency in humans results in the inactivity of molybdenum-dependent enzymes and is caused by pathogenic variants in MOCS1 (Molybdenum cofactor synthesis 1), MOCS2 (Molybdenum cofactor synthesis 2), and GPHN ...

Impaired mitochondrial maturation of sulfite oxidase in a patient with severe sulfite oxidase deficiency

open access: yesHuman Molecular Genetics, 2019
AbstractSulfite oxidase (SO) is encoded by the nuclear SUOX gene and catalyzes the final step in cysteine catabolism thereby oxidizing sulfite to sulfate. Oxidation of sulfite is dependent on two cofactors within SO, a heme and the molybdenum cofactor (Moco), the latter forming the catalytic site of sulfite oxidation.

Structure and functional genes associated with carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur cycling processes in periphyton: A comparison between natural and artificial rivers

open access: yesRiver, EarlyView.
Network analysis of functional genes among prokaryotes, and eukaryotes in natural and artificial rivers. Abstract Periphyton in aquatic ecosystems plays vital roles in the elemental cycle process and is vulnerable to anthropogenic interference. However, few studies have explored the elemental cycles of carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and ...

Novel roles of sulfur metabolism in stress‐controlled stomata aperture regulation

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Stomatal closure allows plants to conserve water by reducing transpiration during drought. Surprisingly, the assimilation of the macronutrient sulfur is intimately connected to the drought stress response. This Tansley insight will only briefly touch on the general impact of sulfate assimilation on the production of drought‐response metabolites.
