Waist‐to‐height ratio and renal dysfunction as independent correlates of low handgrip strength in patients with type 2 diabetes

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 17, Issue 9, Page 1538-1547, September 2026.
In 1,468 patients with type 2 diabetes, central obesity (WHtR >0.5) neutralizes the protective effects of higher BMI on muscle strength. Concurrently, visceral adiposity and CKD impose an additive threat, maximizing low handgrip strength risk (aOR = 1.74). Combining WHtR and renal tracking optimizes clinical sarcopenia screening.

Clinical characteristics of Sarcopenic obesity in Japanese people with type 2 diabetes: A post hoc analysis of the sub‐cohort iDIAMOND study

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 17, Issue 9, Page 1565-1574, September 2026.
Among participants aged 40–75 years, sarcopenic obesity was observed in 4.9% of those with T2D and 0.5% of non‐D individuals. Sarcopenic obesity is more prevalent in individuals with T2D and is associated with impaired physical QOL, reduced walking ability, and increased falls.

Kinetic Compatibility as a Predictor of PTP1B Inhibitor Combination Outcomes: An Integrated Experimental and Computational Study

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 16, 27 August 2026.
Combining PTP1B inhibitors of distinct kinetic mechanisms determines their pharmacological outcome. Integrating enzyme kinetics, docking, molecular dynamics, and membrane‐permeability simulations, we show that mechanistically compatible pairs (competitive + competitive; uncompetitive + mixed) yield additivity, whereas competitive + uncompetitive ...

Sulfonylurea Bioisosteres of Sulfonic Acid in JFD 00458‐Based ST6GAL1 Inhibitors Enhance Membrane Permeability

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 16, 27 August 2026.
ST6GAL1 sialylates glycoconjugates in the Golgi, modulating immune recognition and enabling tumor immune evasion. To effectively reach ST6GAL1, inhibitors should demonstrate good membrane permeability. Based on nonpermeable hit JFD 00458, we developed sulfonylurea analogs achieving increased membrane permeability and potency.
