Sulphonamide resistant commensal Neisseria with alterations in the dihydropteroate synthase can be isolated from carriers not exposed to sulphonamides

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2002
Background Development of sulphonamide resistance in Neisseria meningitidis has been suggested to involve horizontal DNA-transfer from a commensal Neisseria species.

Relation between structure of sulphonamides and inhibition of H2-pteroate synthesis in Escherichia coli

open access: yes, 1974
Inhibitory activities for cell-free H2-pteroate synthesis in E. coli have been estimated for a heterogeneous series of N1-substituted sulphonamides and for N1N1-dialkyl-sulphonamides.

Whole Genome Characterization of Klebsiella Strains in European Hedgehogs and Human Nosocomial Settings Identified Shared Sequence Types, Antimicrobial Resistance Genes and Plasmids

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, Volume 73, Issue 6, Page 516-527, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Klebsiella pneumoniae is a pathogen associated with healthcare‐acquired infections and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to beta‐lactams and carbapenems. Although wild animals are not typically exposed to antibiotics, they can harbour resistant strains. The European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) is increasingly found in urban areas,

New antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant agents bearing sulfonamide

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medicinal Chemistry Reports
The successful nickel catalyzed synthesis of N-(aryl) substituted p-toluene sulphonamides is reported. The intermediate 4-methylbenzenesulphonamide was obtained by the reaction of p-toluenesulphonyl chloride and ammonium hydroxide.

Antibiotic use in small-scale dairy farming and residue levels of tetracyclines and sulphonamides in milk from Eastern Tanzania

open access: yesBulletin of the National Research Centre
Background The extensive use of antibiotics in small-scale dairy operations raises concerns regarding food safety and the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), especially concerning tetracyclines and sulphonamides.

Inhibition studies of Brucella suis β-carbonic anhydrases with a series of 4-substituted pyridine-3-sulphonamides

open access: yesJournal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry, 2018
The two β-carbonic anhydrases (CAs, EC 4.2.1.1) from the pathogenic bacterium Brucella suis, BsuCA1 and BsuCA2, were investigated for their inhibition profile with a series of pyridine-3-sulphonamide derivatives incorporating 4-hetaryl moieties.
