Modern View of the Sun: Materials for an Experimental History at the Dawn of the Telescopic Era

open access: yesHistories
Galileo and the telescope revolutionized the concept of the Sun. The discovery of its rotation was possible due to the continuous observation of the sunspots. The faculae and the maculae with umbra and penumbra became accessible daily to new instruments,

Relative Sunspot Number Observed from 2002 to 2011 at ButterStar Observatory [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2012
The ButterStar Observatory at the Dongducheon High School has been working for photographic observations of the Sun since October 16, 2002. In this study, we observed the Sun at the ButterStar observatory for 3,364 days from October 16, 2002 to December ...

The missing woodland story: Implications of 1700 years of stand‐scale change on ‘naturalness’ and managing remnant broadleaved woodlands

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Longer‐term perspectives—equivalent to the lifespans of long‐lived trees—are required to fully inform perceptions of ‘naturalness’ used in woodland conservation and management. Stand‐scale dynamics of an old growth temperate woodland are reconstructed using palaeoecological data.

Deciphering solar turbulence from sunspots records

open access: yes, 2009
It is generally believed that sunspots are the emergent part of magnetic flux tubes in the solar interior. These tubes are created at the base of the convection zone and rise to the surface due to their magnetic buoyancy.

Relationship between food quality and body size of common vole in different habitats

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The body size of the common vole in crop fields (alfalfa, rape, cereals) is larger than in less‐cultivated habitats (forests, clearings, set‐aside) and is not related to food quality. Abstract BACKGROUND There is a close relationship between habitat, food and demographic parameters of common vole populations.

Propagation Properties of Sunspots Umbral Oscillations in Horizontal and Vertical Directions

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We present a study on investigating the propagation characteristics of umbral oscillations in sunspots. In sunspot 1 (located in NOAA AR 12127) with four umbrae, the analysis shows that the oscillations in different umbrae are correlated.

Choroidal vascular hyperpermeability patterns in central serous chorioretinopathy correlate with microperimetry: CERTAIN study report 4

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This report evaluates the association of three distinct leakage patterns of choroidal vascular hyperpermeability (CVH) on indocyanine green angiography (ICGA), previously correlated with disease chronicity, with retinal sensitivity measured by microperimetry in central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC): unifocal indistinct signs of ...

Magnetic topology of a naked sunspot: Is it really naked?

open access: yes, 2012
The high spatial, temporal and spectral resolution achieved by Hinode instruments give much better understanding of the behavior of some elusive solar features, such as pores and naked sunspots.

Real‐world outcomes of aflibercept 8 mg in patients previously treated for neovascular age‐related macular degeneration

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To evaluate visual, anatomical and safety outcomes of aflibercept 8 mg in previously treated patients with neovascular age‐related macular degeneration (nAMD). Methods This retrospective study included nAMD patients switched to aflibercept 8 mg from prior anti‐VEGF therapies at Sahlgrenska University Hospital between February 2024 and ...

Sunspots and monetary policy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A monetary economy subject to expectational sunspots is prone to instability, in the sense of multiple rational expectations equilibria. We show how to modify the policy rule to guarantee stability in the presence of expectational sunspots. The policy-
