Extreme supercontinuum generation to the deep UV
Optics Letters, 2012We report the formation of an ultrabroad supercontinuum down to 280 nm in the deep UV by pumping sharply tapered (5-30 mm taper lengths) solid-core photonic crystal fibers with 130 fs, 2 nJ pulses at 800 nm. The taper moves the point of soliton fission to a position where the core is narrower, a process that requires normal dispersion at the input face

Supercontinuum generation in a fiber grating
Applied Physics Letters, 2004We show that supercontinuum generation in a fiber containing a Bragg grating exhibits >10× enhancement near the Bragg resonance wavelength. We also show that the grating dispersion exceeds the waveguide dispersion over a bandwidth far in excess of its photonic band gap.

Supercontinuum generation in tapered fibres
Summaries of Papers Presented at the Lasers and Electro-Optics. CLEO '02. Technical Diges, 2003Summary form only given. The key feature of the microstructured fibre is the large index step between core (silica) and cladding (mostly air). This permits confinement in a very small core and hence (a) high intensity for a given power (or pulse energy), and (b) zero or anomalous dispersion at the pump wavelength, despite the strong normal dispersion ...

Supercontinuum generation based on nanofiber
Optik, 2008Supercontinuum generation (SCG) using a femtosecond Ti:Sapphire laser as a pump source and a nanofiber as a nonlinear element is investigated by numerical modeling. Many parameters are taken into account involving input pulse duration, peak power and diameter of the nanofiber.

Spectrally controlled supercontinuum generation
2006 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and 2006 Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference, 2006We present new developments in the generation of photonic crystal fiber-based white-light SC of unprecedented breadth (> 2500 nm) and smoothness. The spectral coverage (350 nm - 3000 nm) and quality of this radiation is promising for a variety of applications.

Biophotonics applications of supercontinuum generation
2010Introduction Continua generated using high pulse energy laser systems to create broad spectra (Alfano and Shapiro, 1970) have been used for spectroscopy for many years (e.g. Busch et al., 1973). The application of fibre-generated continua to spectroscopy was suggested as early as 1976 in work by Lin and Stolen (1976) where a continuum spanning ∼450 ...

Supercontinuum Generation in Optical Fibers
2010The optical fiber based supercontinuum source has recently become a significant scientific and commercial success, with applications ranging from frequency comb production to advanced medical imaging. This one-of-a-kind book explains the theory of fiber supercontinuum broadening, describes the diverse operational regimes and indicates principal areas ...

Supercontinuum generation in microstructured fibers
Technical Digest. Summaries of papers presented at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics. Postconference Technical Digest (IEEE Cat. No.01CH37170), 2001Summary form only given. We present a theoretical investigation of the nonlinear propagation of femtosecond pulses tuned near the zero-dispersion point of a fiber waveguide for conditions consistent with recent experiments in microstructured fibers. Although we include all the important processes for such an interaction, such as Raman and shock-wave ...
