Supercritical carbon dioxide and polymers: an interplay of science and technology

open access: yesPolymer International, 2014
The increasing use of supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) as a green solvent for polymer synthesis and processing reflects a still growing interest at academic and industrial level. The peculiar characteristics of scCO2, namely its plasticizing effect on polymeric structures and the enhanced chain mobility, render it an ideal medium for polymer ...

Turmeric essential oil‐loaded wheat starch cryogels as superabsorbent pads for active packaging of fish fillets

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND This study aimed to create a cryogel with water‐absorbing and antioxidant properties. Wheat starch (10%, w/v) was used to produce cryogels, which were then incorporated with turmeric essential oil (TEO) at two concentrations: 20% and 30% (w/w of starch).

Supercritical Carbon Dioxide and Its Potential as a Life-Sustaining Solvent in a Planetary Environment

open access: yesLife, 2014
Supercritical fluids have different properties compared to regular fluids and could play a role as life-sustaining solvents on other worlds. Even on Earth, some bacterial species have been shown to be tolerant to supercritical fluids.

Copolymer Synthesis of N‐Vinylacetamide and 2‐Methylene‐1,3‐Dioxepane Provides a New Degradable Polymer

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, Volume 63, Issue 6, Page 1306-1318, 15 March 2025.
ABSTRACT N‐vinylamides, especially noncyclic N‐vinylacetamide (NVA), have been used in various applications such as biomaterials, surfactants, and hydrogels. However, their potential to copolymerize with cyclic ketene acetal (CKA) to create degradable polymers is underexplored.
